The hated recliner

For close to a year Randy had a lot of leg pain - we thought it had to do with the blood pressure medications he was on. We bought compression stockings, pillows to put under his legs and feet, but nothing seemed to help. In January I took him to a La-Z-Boy store and had him sit in every loveseat - he didn’t want a recliner for himself, he wanted one we could sit in together. He made me promise that I would sit in it with him even though I thought it was ugly. And I promised - I would have done anything to make him more comfortable.

The other reason I wanted to buy a recliner was so that at the end he would be able use it instead of a hospital bed - he spent a lot of time in hospital beds and he hated them. A reclining loveseat would allow him to lie comfortably on his own furniture in his own home in his last days. The assessment of the tumor growth at that time meant we thought we had 8-12 months so it was okay to wait 8-12 weeks for delivery. But then a scan showed the progression to his spinal cord and life expectancy was suddenly reduced to 1-3 months. He died in a hated hospital bed and the recliner was delivered weeks after he died. So I hate it.
