More on Christmas

The townhomes in our complex are positioned along a horseshoe of lawn edged by trees and bushes and so on. That means that the people who live on one side of the horseshoe are looking across at the units on the other side. There’s a little bit of an angle so we’re not staring directly into each other’s living rooms, but there is an unfortunate fishbowl effect because that side of each unit is mostly glass - sliding glass doors off the dining room and tall windows in the living room.

So every night when I would go into the dining room to pull the blinds down I would see the colorful lights on the Christmas trees in the two homes across from me. And because it was not Christmas in my house I would be surprised to see them - every day. And I would think, Oh, right - it’s Christmas over there. And then when I would go upstairs for the night and pull down the blinds I would see them again.

But I didn’t really miss having a tree - I just missed Randy.
